Terms of use
The short version: the site is free, our data is our best measurement but never a guarantee, and comments must be fair and on topic.
About these terms
Blackout Map (blackoutmap.net and blackoutmap.online) is run by Pixelsolutions B.V., the Netherlands. By using the site you agree to these terms. Questions: info@blackoutmap.net.
What Blackout Map is, and is not
Blackout Map shows measurements and reports about internet outages, website problems and power cuts. It is free to use.
Measurements can be late, incomplete or wrong, and reports come from visitors we cannot verify. Do not rely on the site for decisions about safety, health or emergencies, and always check with official sources. We may change, pause or stop parts of the site at any time.
Using the site fairly
- Linking to pages, sharing screenshots and using our embed cards is welcome.
- Do not send false problem reports, try to break or overload the site, or download it in bulk with automated tools without asking us first.
- Do not use the site for anything illegal.
Your account
One account per person. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you are responsible for what is posted from your account. You can delete it at any time. We may block or remove accounts that break these terms.
Comment rules
Comments are for sharing what you see: whether a site or the internet works for you, where you are, your provider. Please:
- Stay on topic and be respectful. No insults, threats, harassment or hate.
- No spam, advertising or links to unrelated sites.
- No illegal content, and nothing that infringes the rights of others.
- Do not post personal details of other people, and do not pretend to be someone else.
Comments with links, website addresses, contact details or swear words cannot be posted. Anyone can report a comment; we look at every report, and a comment that several people report is hidden until we have looked at it. We may hide or remove comments and block accounts that break these rules. If we do, you can ask us why at info@blackoutmap.net and tell us if you think we got it wrong; where we can reach you, we tell you ourselves.
To report illegal content, use the Report button under the comment or write to info@blackoutmap.net, and explain why you think it is illegal.
Your content
Your comments stay yours. By posting, you allow us to show them on Blackout Map, free of charge, for as long as they are online. You can delete them at any time, and they are deleted with your account.
Our content
The site, its design and texts belong to us. Data from other sources keeps the terms of those sources; who they are and how they are credited is explained on How it works.
Liability
We do our best to keep the site correct and available, but we provide it as it is. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for damage caused by using the site or by relying on its information, or by comments from other visitors. This does not limit liability that the law does not allow us to limit, such as for intent or gross negligence.
Changes and law
We may update these terms; the date below shows the latest version. Dutch law applies, and disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands. If you live in another EU country, you keep the protection your own consumer law gives you.
